The format
A showdown lineup uses players from a single game. You choose one captain and five flex players. The captain scores 1.5× — and costs 1.5× as well, so the multiplier is not free.
Both teams are available. Defences and kickers are eligible. With so few slots and one game to draw from, roster overlap between entrants is dramatically higher than on a full slate.
Captain choice is the whole tournament
The captain slot is where entries differentiate. Most of the field captains one of the two quarterbacks or the game's best skill player. Taking a correct contrarian captain is the single highest-leverage decision available in the format.
Correlation is unavoidable — use it deliberately
Everyone in the lineup is in the same game, so scores move together. A shootout lifts nearly every skill player; a defensive struggle sinks them. Build lineups that express one coherent story about how the game goes, rather than hedging across contradictory outcomes.
Common questions
Does the captain cost more?
Yes. The captain scores 1.5× and their salary is also multiplied by 1.5, which tightens the cap on the other five slots.
