What this ranking is doing
The order is the market’s posted total, highest first. The total is the single most useful public number for daily fantasy because it estimates how much scoring exists to be shared out. Everything else on a slate competes for a share of that number.
- COL @ NYY carries the highest total on the board at 9.5. It offers the most raw scoring to distribute, and it is also where the most other entrants will be looking.
- CLE @ BAL has the tightest spread at CLE -118. Close games stay competitive into the fourth quarter, which protects starter workload.
- CIN @ LAD has the widest spread at LAD -292. A one-sided result truncates the leading side’s passing volume and the trailing side’s running game.
This is a transparent rule applied to public numbers, not a model output. It tells you where scoring is expected and where workload is at risk — the two questions that come before any individual player decision. It does not know about this morning’s injury report, and it should not be the last thing you check.
The pitcher decides the slate
In baseball DFS the starting pitcher is both the largest single scoring source and the biggest constraint on everyone else. A dominant starter suppresses an entire opposing lineup, which means picking a pitcher is simultaneously a decision to fade nine hitters.
This is why stacking works in baseball more cleanly than in any other sport: hitters in the same lineup score together, because they are facing the same pitcher in the same conditions.
Park and weather are real inputs, not trivia
Run environment varies enormously by venue. The same batted ball is a home run in one park and a fly out in another. Wind direction at outdoor parks changes total expectations by a full run in the extremes. These are among the few public inputs that are genuinely predictive rather than already priced.
Batting order is the cheapest edge available
A hitter batting second gets meaningfully more plate appearances across a season than one batting seventh. Lineups post a few hours before first pitch, and the difference between assuming a spot and knowing it is the difference between a guess and a fact.
Common questions
When do MLB lineups get confirmed?
Most teams post starting lineups two to four hours before first pitch. Building before that means guessing at batting order and playing time.
